Ömer Okyar
Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach
Ömer Okyar, originally from Neuss, Germany, has been part of the Queens University of Charlotte men’s soccer program both as a player and a coach. He joined the soccer program in 2015 as a student-athlete, and later transitioned to the coaching staff in Fall 2021 as Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach. He played a key role in guiding Queens through its transition from Division II to Division I, contributing to landmark victories, including multiple wins versus national top-40 opponents. During his playing days, Okyar helped lead Queens to a South Atlantic Conference league title, made an NCAA Tournament appearance, and holds the Queens record for most successful penalty kicks (9). He also earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and subsequently completed an MBA at Queens.
Okyar remains an integral part of the coaching staff, focusing on tactical support, player development, recruiting, and mentoring. He brings continuity from his playing days into the coaching realm, offering insight into both sides of the program. He holds a U.S. Soccer D License and continues to leverage his experience as a former Royal in developing current student-athletes. He is married to Jasmin Singh, a dual-sport alum who competed in women’s soccer and lacrosse at Queens.
