Zach Hinsley
Associate Head Swimming Coach
Zach Hinsley is an accomplished collegiate swimming coach who serves as the Associate Head Swimming Coach for the University of Miami Hurricanes swimming and diving program in Coral Gables, Florida. Promoted to associate head coach in 2024, Hinsley completed his fourth season with the Hurricanes in 2024–25, playing a pivotal role in Miami’s rise to national prominence. Under his guidance in his first year in the elevated role, the Hurricanes achieved a top-15 finish at the 2025 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, posting 75.5 team points — the program’s strongest showing since 2011 — while having three swimmers qualify for the NCAA meet. During his tenure, Miami has also set numerous school records and maintained its streak of scoring at NCAA Championships. His strategic leadership in recruiting and athlete development has been widely credited as a key contributor to the program’s recent success.
Hinsley’s coaching roots trace back to his alma mater, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Miami in 2015 before beginning his coaching career. Prior to returning to Miami, he spent four seasons on staff at Miami University in Ohio, serving as assistant and associate head coach for the RedHawks, where he helped guide both men’s and women’s teams to competitive finishes, including a Mid-American Conference championship. Before his collegiate coaching career, Hinsley worked with Hurricane Aquatics in Coral Gables, rising to head age-group coach and camp director while contributing to athlete training and meet operations. Outside the pool, he is married to Dr. Christine Orndahl, a fellow University of Miami alumnus.
