Xiomara Ortiz
Head Volleyball Coach
Xiomara Ortiz serves as the Head Volleyball Coach at Morgan State University and enters her fourth season leading the Lady Bears in 2025. Hired in 2022 as the program’s seventh head coach, Ortiz brings a student-centered philosophy built around competitiveness, academic excellence, and holistic development. From the outset of her tenure, she has emphasized a “Competitor for Life” mindset, challenging student-athletes to excel not only on the court, but also in the classroom and in their future professional careers. Her leadership reflects Morgan State’s commitment to fostering a winning culture grounded in character and accountability.
Ortiz joined Morgan State after spending the 2021 season as a full-time assistant coach at Shippensburg University. Prior to that, she spent four seasons at Lehigh University as the primary assistant coach, defensive and libero coach, and recruiting coordinator. At Lehigh, Ortiz played a central role in national recruiting efforts, helping secure 11 commitments over a two-year span, while also leading defensive development, conditioning, scouting reports, film breakdown, and statistical analysis. She was actively involved in student-athlete advocacy initiatives, including helping initiate the Patriot League’s Anti-Racism Commission and advising the Student-Athletes of Color leadership group. Earlier in her career, Ortiz served as an assistant coach at Hartwick College and worked extensively in club volleyball as a head coach and camp director. As a former standout libero at Binghamton University, she set school records for single-season and career digs and earned multiple All-America East honors. Ortiz holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropological perspectives and a master’s degree in public administration from Binghamton, bringing both academic and competitive excellence to her leadership of Morgan State volleyball.
