Will Windham
Assistant Coach -- Defensive Coordinator / Safeties
Will Windham was named defensive coordinator and safeties coach at the University of South Alabama in February 2024 after previously serving three seasons as the Jaguars’ linebackers coach. In his first year leading the defense, Windham helped guide South Alabama to a 7–6 record and a victory in the IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl, securing the program’s second consecutive bowl championship. Under his direction, the Jaguars finished second in the Sun Belt Conference in rushing defense, limiting opponents to 142.8 rushing yards per game, and recorded 16 interceptions — the most in a single season in program history. Safety Jaden Voisin emerged as one of the league’s top defensive players, earning First Team All-Sun Belt honors while setting the school’s career interceptions record.
Before his promotion, Windham was part of a defensive staff that produced some of the best statistical seasons since South Alabama transitioned to the FBS level in 2012, matching school records in interceptions and takeaways while posting one of the program’s top sack totals. Prior to arriving in Mobile, he coached at Kent State, contributing to the Golden Flashes’ first-ever bowl victory in 2019. Windham also gained experience at Georgia as a defensive quality control coach during the Bulldogs’ SEC Championship and College Football Playoff run, and held roles at Mississippi State, Penn State, and Davidson. A Tupelo, Mississippi native, Windham earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State and resides in Mobile with his wife, Whitney, and their two children.
