Willie Hinojosa
Assistant Coach
Willie Hinojosa, a Colorado Mesa alumnus and former All-American baseball player, is in his fourth season as an assistant coach in the Mavericks’ women’s softball program. In his role (primarily as hitting coach), he has contributed significantly to the program’s outstanding offensive performance: the team set an NCAA Division II record of 123 home runs in 2024, led the country with 100 home runs in 2022, and recorded strong slugging and scoring numbers under his guidance.
Hinojosa joined the Maverick program for the 2021-22 academic year after more than ten years of coaching experience, including serving as assistant baseball coach at Hartnell Junior College in Salinas, California. As a player, he graduated from Colorado Mesa in 2005 with a degree in kinesiology, was named a Second Team NCBWA All-American and Third Team ABCA All-American after hitting .364 with 18 home runs and 71 RBIs in his senior season, and earned First Team All-RMAC and All-West Region honors as a shortstop for the Mavericks.
In his coaching tenure with the softball program, Hinojosa has helped the Mavericks win two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) regular-season titles and reach the RMAC Tournament Championship game in another season.
