William Vanzela
Associate Head Men's Soccer Coach
William Vanzela has been a long-time pillar of the Johns Hopkins men’s soccer program. He joined the Blue Jay coaching staff in 2015 as a goalkeeper coach and, in August 2025, was promoted to Associate Head Men’s Soccer Coach — the first person in program history to hold that title. Over the years, he also spent three seasons coaching goalkeepers for the Hopkins women’s squad.
On the field, Vanzela has mentored several standout goalkeepers. In his first season, he coached Bryan See to a .880 save percentage (fifth nationally) and a 0.486 goals against average (eighth). He has also guided goalkeepers such as Xander LeFevre to multiple All-Conference selections, and Alex Morgret to a national-leading 14 shutouts in 2022. Beyond his collegiate coaching, Vanzela maintains an active professional playing career in indoor soccer. He has been a standout goalkeeper in the MASL (Major Arena Soccer League) for the Baltimore Blast, earning multiple All-MASL honors and accolades such as MASL Goalkeeper of the Year (2015) and Championship MVP (2017). He also holds dual citizenship (Brazil & Italy) and was a member of Italy’s World Cup-winning 7-a-side (futsal) team in 2011, where he was named Best Goalkeeper.
