Troy Hammel is an assistant coach for the Fordham University men's basketball program in Bronx, New York. He joined Mike Magpayo's staff in May 2025 after previously working with him at UC Riverside. In his first season at Fordham, Hammel was part of a team that finished 17-15 overall and 8-10 in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams stood out defensively, leading the conference and ranking 12th nationally, while also finishing among the A-10's best rebounding teams.
Before arriving at Fordham, Hammel completed three seasons as an assistant coach at UC Riverside. The Highlanders went 21-13 and 14-6 in the Big West in his final season there and earned the program's first NIT appearance. Across his three seasons as an assistant under Magpayo, UC Riverside posted two 20-win seasons and a 38-22 conference record. Hammel had earlier served as a graduate assistant at UC Riverside from 2018 to 2020, then spent 2020-21 as an assistant coach at Colorado Christian and 2021-22 as video coordinator at Rice.
