Trent Kersten was named the eighth head coach of the University of Oregon volleyball program in February 2025, bringing with him a reputation as one of the rising coaches in collegiate volleyball. Prior to arriving in Eugene, Kersten spent two highly successful seasons at Loyola Marymount, where he compiled a 45-12 overall record and a 29-5 mark in West Coast Conference play. In 2024, he led LMU to its first WCC Championship since 1996 and a berth in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, earning WCC Coach of the Year honors. His teams consistently developed high-level talent, producing multiple all-conference selections, academic honorees, and All-America recognition.
Before LMU, Kersten served as head coach at San Jose State from 2020 to 2022, where he transformed the program into a Mountain West contender. He guided the Spartans to a 47-28 record, including a program-record 14 conference wins and a runner-up finish in 2022. Earlier in his career, Kersten spent five seasons on the coaching staff at TCU, contributing to nationally ranked recruiting classes and multiple postseason appearances. A former standout player at UCLA, he was a three-year starter and earned All-MPSF honorable mention honors. Kersten has also been active in USA Volleyball development programs, helping cultivate elite youth talent. His combination of playing experience, recruiting success, and player development has positioned him to continue elevating Oregon volleyball on the national stage.
