Tony Pujol
Head Coach
Tony Pujol has served as the head men’s basketball coach at the University of North Alabama since April 2, 2018, becoming the program’s first Division I head coach as the Lions transitioned to the ASUN Conference. Entering his eighth season in 2025–26, Pujol has been instrumental in guiding UNA’s steady rise at the Division I level. The 2024–25 season marked a historic milestone, as the Lions captured a share of the ASUN Regular Season Championship — the university’s first ASUN regular-season title in any sport. UNA finished 24–11 overall and 14–4 in conference play, advanced to the ASUN Championship Game for the second time in seven seasons, and earned the program’s first-ever at-large bid to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). For his leadership, Pujol was named a finalist for the 2025 Hugh Durham National Coach of the Year Award.
Over seven seasons, Pujol has compiled more than 100 wins while mentoring multiple all-conference performers, ASUN Freshman of the Year honorees, and academic standouts. His teams have consistently been competitive in postseason play, including a run to the 2021 ASUN Championship Game and a CBI appearance in 2023. Prior to UNA, Pujol built extensive experience as an assistant coach at Wyoming, Alabama, VCU, and Appalachian State, contributing to NCAA and NIT appearances and conference championships. A former high school coach in Florida with multiple state titles, Pujol brings more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience. A Sterling College graduate, he and his wife, Mayle, have three daughters.
