Tony Newnan
Associate Head Coach
Tony Newnan joined the UCLA women’s basketball staff in May 2011 and, entering the 2025-26 season, is beginning his 15th year with the program. In his role as associate head coach and international recruiting coordinator, Newnan has been instrumental in the Bruins’ rise to national prominence. During his tenure, the team has compiled over 300 wins and earned nine NCAA Tournament appearances, including a historic first Final Four in 2025. He was honored as the 2025 NCAA Division I Assistant Coach of the Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
Before UCLA, Newnan served as an assistant coach at Westmont College and Oregon State University, and earlier at UC Santa Barbara, where he helped guide the program to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. His global recruiting efforts helped bring in key international players such as Izzy Anstey (Australia) and Emily Bessoir (Germany). With an emphasis on skill development, offensive scheme innovation, and international talent identification, Newnan has helped shape the Bruins’ upward trajectory both on the court and in recruiting.
