Tommy Gardiner is the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of Maryland baseball program in College Park, Maryland. He moved into the assistant coach position before the 2024 season after serving two seasons as Maryland's director of player development, a post he took on in February 2022. Before joining the staff, he played for the Terrapins from 2018 to 2021 and graduated from Maryland in December 2021.
Since becoming an assistant coach, Gardiner has been part of three Maryland teams that combined for 88 wins from 2024 through 2026. The 2026 club finished 27-29 and led the Big Ten in several major offensive categories, including runs, home runs, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, RBI, walks, total bases, and OPS. That team also recorded the program's 2,000th win with a victory over Indiana on April 12 and earned a ranked win against No. 12 USC on May 28. Brayden Martin received All-Big Ten Third Team honors, while Ty Kaunas, Bud Coombs, and Ryan Costello were selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
