Tommy Freeman is the assistant coach/director of operations for the University of Maine men's basketball program in Orono, Maine, a position he has held since June 2022. Before joining Maine, he spent four years as an assistant coach at Hargrave Military Academy, working in recruiting, scouting, player development, and program management. He also coached with Team Teague from 2018 to 2021, overseeing student-athlete academic progress, preparing video highlights, and assisting with recruiting. Earlier, he served as a graduate assistant at Ohio University from 2016 to 2018, contributing to recruiting visits, scouting reports, summer camps, and team travel coordination.
Freeman earned both degrees from Ohio University, completing a bachelor's degree in business marketing in 2011 and a master's degree in coaching education in 2018. As a player at Ohio, he scored 1,071 career points and finished as the program's all-time leader in three-point field goals made and three-point percentage. He was part of the team that upset No. 3 Georgetown in the 2010 NCAA tournament. After college, he played professionally in Europe and North America with the Worcester Wolves, SAM Massagno, Windsor Express, and Glasgow Rocks. He also worked as a shooting coach for Pro Shot from 2013 to 2016, instructing athletes ages eight to 25 at camps held across multiple states.
