Tom Barrett is an assistant coach for Sacred Heart men’s basketball in Fairfield, Connecticut. He returned to the program before the 2023-24 season and serves as the team’s offensive coordinator. Under his direction, the Pioneers finished first in points per game within their conference in each of the past two seasons. In Sacred Heart’s first season in the MAAC in 2024-25, the team averaged 78.0 points per game in conference play, and in 2023-24 the Pioneers led the NEC at 76.4 points per game during league action. Before returning to Sacred Heart, Barrett spent two years at Rutgers working under Steve Pikiell as director of external operations. While there, Rutgers reached the 2022 NCAA Tournament, marking the program’s first consecutive tournament appearances since 1976. Barrett handled analytics and special projects and also assisted with scouting reports.
Prior to Rutgers, he spent four seasons at Sacred Heart as coordinator of basketball operations. His first stretch with the Pioneers included the 2019-20 season, when Sacred Heart recorded its best season at the Division I level with 20 wins and a trip to the NEC Tournament semifinals. That team became the first Pioneer squad to reach 20 wins since 1988-89 and the first to do so in the Division I era. It also won the program’s first postseason game since 2009 with a 61-59 victory over Mount Saint Mary’s. Earlier in his career, Barrett served as director of operations and recruiting coordinator at Maine, where he oversaw scheduling, budget management, and student managers along with other operational duties. He also spent a season at Delaware as video coordinator, managing all video operations and film edits for practices, games, and opponents. Barrett began his post-college coaching career in 2012 at Downingtown East High School in Pennsylvania, where he spent three years as junior varsity head coach and a varsity assistant. He graduated from Temple in 2012 with a degree in business administration after serving as a student manager for the Owls from 2009 to 2012.
