Todd Grantham
Defensive Coordinator
Todd Grantham was named Defensive Coordinator at UAB on January 7, 2026, bringing 35 seasons of collegiate and professional coaching experience to Birmingham. Most recently, he served as defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State in 2025 following two seasons as defensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints. In New Orleans, Grantham helped develop a young defensive front, highlighted by career-best performances from Carl Granderson and standout production from first-round pick Bryan Bresee. His recent collegiate experience includes time as defensive coordinator at Florida (2018-21), where the Gators ranked among the nation’s leaders in sacks and takeaways, as well as prior coordinator roles at Mississippi State, Louisville, and Georgia. At Georgia, he led one of the nation’s top defenses in 2011 and helped the Bulldogs to a 12-win season in 2012.
Grantham also brings extensive NFL experience, including serving as defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns and defensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, and Houston Texans. His Cowboys unit led the NFL in sacks in 2008 and ranked second in scoring defense in 2009. Earlier in his career, he coached at Michigan State under Nick Saban and at his alma mater, Virginia Tech, where the Hokies ranked among the nation’s top defensive units in the mid-1990s. A former standout offensive lineman at Virginia Tech, Grantham earned his degree in sports management in 1989. He and his wife, Paige, have two children, Corbin and Olivia.
