Thomas Coombes
Head Men's Soccer Coach
Thomas Coombes has been the head men's soccer coach at Flagler College since November 15, 2022, after initially serving as interim head coach earlier that year. Prior to his promotion, he spent two years (2020-21) as an assistant coach at Flagler under Chris Kranjc. In his first full season as head coach, Coombes led the Saints to a 10-4-3 overall record and an 8-2-2 mark in the Peach Belt Conference while guiding the team to the conference tournament title game.
In 2024, he coached Flagler to a 12-5-3 overall record and a conference tournament championship, and the program earned its first appearance in the NCAA Division II national tournament since 2013; six players were named all-conference, Max Gottwald earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, and several earned all-region or All-America accolades. Coombes played collegiately as a forward at Barry University, where he ranked fourth all-time in goals (33) and earned NCAA Division II All-America honorable mention honors in his senior season. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and his master’s in sport management from Barry University. A versatile coach with experience recruiting domestic and international talent, Coombes continues to build the Saints’ program in St. Augustine with a focus on defensive strength, player development and sustained competitive success.
