Taran Alvelo is in her second season as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Providence College softball in Providence, Rhode Island. In her first year on staff, Providence finished 22-23-1 overall and 11-13 in BIG EAST play. Before arriving at Providence, Alvelo served as a volunteer assistant at Florida International in 2023, working with the pitching staff in practices and scrimmages and contributing to game preparation. She also spent time at Louisiana in 2020 as a volunteer assistant, where she supported the pitching coach and assisted with practice organization and in-game charting.
Alvelo was an accomplished pitcher at Washington from 2015-19. A four-time All-Pac-12 selection and two-time All-American, she helped the Huskies reach the Women's College World Series three times and finish as national runner-up in 2018. She ended her career ranked second in program history in both strikeouts with 895 and wins with 102, and she is one of only three Washington players to record 300 strikeouts in a season. Her honors included Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2016, a spot on the 2019 Women's College World Series All-Tournament Team, finalist status for the 2018 USA Softball Player of the Year award, and recognition on the final list for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award.
