Steve Schram is an assistant coach for William & Mary women’s tennis in Williamsburg, Virginia. An 18-year coaching veteran, he enters his second season with the Tribe in 2026-27 after joining the staff in July 2025. In his first year in Williamsburg, he helped William & Mary go 14-7 overall and 6-1 in CAA play while advancing to the conference championship match for the 11th consecutive season. The Tribe defeated Charleston 4-0 in the semifinals before dropping a close 4-3 decision to Elon in the title match, and the season ended with William & Mary ranked No. 8 in the ITA Atlantic Region. The team also earned a number of individual honors under the staff’s direction. Freshman Rebeka Svabikova was named CAA Rookie of the Year, Francesca Davis collected All-CAA First Team Singles honors, Sia Chaudry was named to the second team in singles, and Mira Kernagis earned third-team singles recognition. In doubles, the teams of Davis and Tilda Larsson and of Alexia Gonzalez-Galino and Kernagis both received All-CAA second-team honors. Off the court, Chaudry, Davis, and Yaelle Vaissaud were selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team. Schram brought extensive head coaching experience to William & Mary. Before arriving, he had spent 10 years as a head coach, including five at the Division I level, and compiled a 126-58 career record with a 42-24 mark in conference play. His head coaching stops included Eastern Michigan, Southern Mississippi, Nova Southeastern, and Limestone. Over those years, his players earned 18 all-conference honors, including four first-team selections, and three All-America honors. His teams also claimed eight ITA All-Academic Team Awards and produced 32 ITA Scholar-Athletes. Most recently before joining the Tribe, Schram worked as a teaching professional at Lifetime Athletic Club in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and also served as an assistant coach at Minnesota in the fall of 2023. At Eastern Michigan, he led the Eagles to six wins in 2023 and coached a freshman to All-MAC First Team honors. His most sustained Division I head coaching success came at Southern Miss, where his teams went 44-14 over four seasons and posted a perfect 28-0 home record. The Golden Eagles reached their highest ITA South Region ranking at No.
7 in 2021 and finished No. 8 in 2022, while the 2022 team also earned the best Conference USA Tournament seed in program history at No. 6. During the shortened 2019-20 season, Southern Miss opened 11-1 for the best start in school history. In all, he coached four All-Conference USA selections in Hattiesburg. Earlier in his career, Schram built strong Division II programs at Limestone and Nova Southeastern. At Nova Southeastern, his final two teams finished in the national top 10 at No. 7 in 2015 and No. 8 in 2016, and he coached three All-Americans, an ITA South Region Player to Watch, and the 2016 Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner. He was named ITA South Region Coach of the Year in 2015 after leading the Sharks to an 18-3 record and an NCAA Regional appearance. As an assistant, he also worked at Barry, where he helped the program win back-to-back NCAA Division II national championships and post a 58-0 record over two seasons. That work earned him ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2018 and South Region Assistant Coach of the Year recognition in both 2017 and 2018. His Division I assistant experience also includes stops at Bucknell, Radford, Wofford, and Minnesota. Schram played collegiately at the University of Charleston and Florida Gulf Coast. During three seasons at FGCU, he helped the Eagles go 48-14, and in 2005 the team set a school record with 19 wins, reached its first NCAA Division II Tournament, defeated then-No. 4 Lynn, and climbed to No. 7 nationally. He earned a political science degree from Florida Gulf Coast in 2006 and later completed a master’s degree in transformational leadership from Aspen University in 2011.
