Steve Nichols
Head Coach
Steve Nichols returned to his alma mater, Loyola University Maryland, in 2014 to lead the men’s soccer program and quickly elevated it back into national prominence. Over his first nine seasons (through 2022), he guided the Greyhounds to four consecutive Patriot League regular-season titles (2017–21) and captured the Patriot League Tournament in 2021, securing the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth since 2009. Under his leadership, the team posted a 58-36-20 record over seven seasons, including a 39-11-9 mark in league play.
Nichols brings a deep foundation in coaching and soccer development, having previously spent 17 years as head coach at The McDonogh School, where his teams reached the No. 1 national ranking and posted an unbeaten 21-0-1 season in 2013. He earned multiple honors including NSCAA Boys Private/Parochial National Coach of the Year in 2013.
As a student-athlete, Nichols played collegiately for Loyola and led his teams during their MAAC dominance in the late 1980s/early 1990s. He holds a B.A. in Communications & Public Relations, earned in 1992.
