Steve Mastalerz is the director of player development for the University of Massachusetts Amherst men's ice hockey program in Amherst, Massachusetts. A UMass alumnus, he joined Greg Carvel's staff in 2023-24 and entered his third season with the program in 2025-26.
Before returning to his alma mater, Mastalerz built coaching experience across the professional, college, and youth levels, with more than a decade focused on goaltenders. Since fall 2015, he had served as vice president and head instructor for Mike Buckley's Goaltending Development Services in North Andover, Massachusetts, while also working as goaltending coach for the NAHL's Northeast Generals. After graduating from UMass in 2015, he signed with the Manchester Monarchs, the Los Angeles Kings' American Hockey League affiliate, and was part of the club during its 2015 Calder Cup championship run. He later remained with Manchester as goaltending coach from 2016 to 2018.
