Steve Gachko
Head Men's Tennis Coach
Steve Gachko is in his 21st season as the head coach of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s tennis program during the 2025–26 academic year and is the winningest tennis coach in school history across both the men’s and women’s teams. Prior to 2020, Gachko served as the head coach for both programs, compiling a combined career record of 370–203. Since focusing exclusively on the men’s program, he has posted a 68–28 record. His sustained excellence has earned him 13 conference Coach of the Year honors, along with national recognition as the ITA National Men’s Coach of the Year in 2015 and the USTA/ITA Campus & Community Outreach Award for his leadership in community-based tennis initiatives.
Under Gachko’s guidance, Stevens has become one of the most consistently successful programs in Division III tennis. His teams have reached the NCAA Tournament numerous times, including a Round of 16 appearance in 2013 and multiple second-round finishes across both programs. He has coached several NCAA and ITA All-Americans, including NCAA Player of the Year Matthew Heinrich, and guided his teams to conference dominance with Empire 8 and MAC Freedom titles. Academically, Gachko’s teams have earned 19 ITA All-Academic Team awards, and multiple student-athletes have achieved CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Prior to Stevens, Gachko served as an assistant coach at The College of New Jersey, where he helped guide nationally ranked programs. His career reflects a balance of competitive success, academic achievement, and long-term program development.
