Steve Frew
Assistant Softball Coach
Steve Frew returned to his alma mater, Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, in the summer of 2024 to serve as an assistant softball coach, with a primary focus on developing and leading the pitching staff for the Tritons. Frew’s impact was immediately evident in his first season, as the team achieved a 30-20 record—the second-most wins in program history—while establishing the single-season wins mark for Sunshine State Conference games. Under his guidance, the pitching corps recorded 323 strikeouts and saw standout performances, including Brandilyn Reymer breaking the school’s single-season strikeout record. Frew enters his second season on the Tritons staff for the 2026 campaign, bringing a wealth of experience and a consistent track record of pitching development.
Before rejoining Eckerd, Frew made significant contributions at other collegiate programs. In 2024 he helped lead the University of Charleston softball team to the NCAA Division II World Series following a program-record 51-8 season. During his tenures with both Charleston and Rollins College, his pitching staffs consistently ranked among the national leaders in earned run average and other key metrics. Over the course of his coaching career, Frew has coached numerous All-Americans, all-region honorees, and all-conference players, and has served as an assistant director for summer fastpitch camps and clinics for more than twenty years. A 1988 Eckerd graduate and former collegiate baseball pitcher, Frew holds a master’s degree from Slippery Rock University and a doctoral degree in higher education from Nova Southeastern University. Outside of softball, he works professionally in engineering and is married to head coach Michelle Frew, with whom he has two children.
