Stephen Lunney is an assistant coach for the University of Louisville men's soccer program in Louisville, Kentucky, a position he took in February 2023 after eight seasons on the staff at Lipscomb. In his first season with Louisville, the Cardinals went 12-6-3, the program's highest win total since 2017, and reached the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive year. Louisville opened the tournament with a 4-3 win over Dayton, had three All-ACC selections, and saw Damien Barker John, Josh Jones, and Gage Guerra chosen in the MLS SuperDraft.
Before arriving at Louisville, Lunney spent six seasons as an assistant coach and two as a graduate assistant at Lipscomb. His early duties there included work with the goalkeepers as well as several off-field assignments. Before the 2021 season, his role expanded to include on-field training, film analysis, scouting, and recruiting coordination. Across his six seasons as an assistant, Lipscomb compiled a 75-55-14 record and won four Atlantic Sun Conference titles.
