Stacy Clinesmith has been an assistant coach for the Gonzaga University women’s basketball program since 2014, bringing both high-level playing experience and a strong track record in player development. A former WNBA player and Spokane native, Clinesmith has been instrumental in developing Gonzaga’s guards into some of the most accomplished players in the West Coast Conference. During her tenure, she has mentored more than 20 All-WCC guards, including multiple conference Players of the Year such as Kaylynne Truong and Jill Townsend. Her impact has been especially evident in Gonzaga’s offensive efficiency and guard play, helping power some of the most successful seasons in program history.
Clinesmith’s coaching has contributed to Gonzaga’s rise as a national contender, including historic seasons featuring long winning streaks, undefeated conference records, and deep postseason runs. Before joining Gonzaga, she coached at Santa Clara and held roles at Oregon State and Central Washington, gaining experience in both operations and on-court instruction. As a player, Clinesmith starred at UC Santa Barbara, where she was a three-time All-Big West selection and one of the program’s all-time leaders in assists and scoring. She went on to play professionally in the WNBA and internationally. Known for her energy, recruiting connections, and ability to develop elite guards, Clinesmith has played a key role in sustaining Gonzaga’s excellence both on and off the court.
