Stacey Bean is the head coach of the Virginia Commonwealth University field hockey program in Richmond, Virginia. Hired in January 2017, she entered her 10th season leading the Rams in 2025 after compiling an 89-51 record across her first nine seasons. Her .winning percentage is the best in program history, and her teams went 41-17 in Atlantic 10 play during that span. By the end of the 2024 season, she ranked second in career victories at VCU, behind only inaugural coach Pat Stauffer.
Bean guided VCU to several of the strongest seasons in program history. In spring 2021, the Rams went 7-0 in the regular season, captured the program's first Atlantic 10 championship, and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time. That year she was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, and her staff received NFHCA South Region Staff of the Year honors. VCU also broke into the NFHCA national poll for the first time since the poll began in 1998 and climbed as high as No. 17. In the fall of 2021, the Rams finished 12-6 and made their third Atlantic 10 title-game appearance in four seasons, while Maite Sturm became the program's first two-time All-American. Bean's teams continued to collect conference and regional recognition in subsequent seasons, including a 13-6 finish and a tie for second in the league in 2023, when Mora Marrero earned NFHCA Third Team All-America honors and shared Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year recognition while also being named the league's Rookie of the Year. In 2024, six VCU players received All-Atlantic 10 honors, and Morena Macera added first-team all-conference and NFHCA All-South Region second-team recognition.
