Spencer Carey is the special teams coordinator and safeties coach for the University of Maine football program in Orono, Maine, entering his fifth season with the Black Bears in 2026. He has coordinated Maine's special teams for the past three seasons and has also coached multiple defensive position groups, working with outside linebackers in 2022 and 2023 and cornerbacks in 2024 and 2025. He also served as the program's recruiting coordinator in 2024.
In 2025, Carey oversaw a special teams unit that featured Samuel Tremblay, a Fred Mitchell Award finalist who made 90 percent of his field-goal attempts and 35 of 36 extra points. Maine also averaged 40.5 yards per punt with 15 punts downed inside the 20, while Scott Woods earned All-CAA Second Team recognition as a punt returner and Trevin Ewing set the school career record for kickoff return yards. In 2023, Carey helped coach linebackers Brian Lee Jr. and Adrian Otero, who finished as Maine's top two tacklers with 72 stops each.
