Smaranda McNerney is the associate head coach for women's tennis at the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York, entering the 2026-27 season as the program's associate head coach for the 10th year, its full-time coach for the 14th season, and a staff member for the 15th year overall after serving as a volunteer assistant in 2011-12.
Her tenure has coincided with several of the most successful seasons in program history. In 2024-25, Buffalo won the Mid-American Conference tournament title for the first time since 2018, defeating top-seeded Miami (Ohio) in the semifinals and Northern Illinois in the championship match. The Bulls finished 20-8 overall, matching the school record for wins for the second time in three seasons, and produced a 109-46 singles record with five players reaching at least 15 singles victories.
