Skip Johnson serves as Head Coach for University of Oklahoma's Baseball program in Norman, Oklahoma. Widely regarded as one of the premier pitching coaches in the country, Skip Johnson has led the Oklahoma baseball program since June 2017. Since taking over the reins after serving one year as the Sooners’ pitching coach, he has led the Sooners to a 267-175 (.604) record in eight seasons and a College World Series finals appearance in 2022.
In his eight seasons as head coach (seven full seasons, accounting for the 2020 campaign shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic), Johnson has led the Sooners to five NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2022 College World Series finals. Additionally, 40 players (31 pitchers) have been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft, 15 have been named to All-America teams and 22 have been all-conference selections (22 in the Big 12 and three in the SEC). Since his arrival at OU as pitching coach prior to the 2017 season, the Sooners have had a total of 31 pitchers selected in the MLB Draft. In 2025, the Sooners played in the SEC for the first time as a member of the league (OU joined the SEC on July 1, 2024).
