Sheila Boykin
Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Sheila Boykin is an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the University of South Florida women’s basketball program, joining head coach Jose Fernandez’s staff in June 2023. A former elite collegiate and professional player, Boykin brings a modern, player-centered approach to coaching, with strengths in recruiting, player development, and relationship building. Since arriving in Tampa, she has contributed to on-court instruction while helping guide recruiting strategy for a program with a strong national and international footprint.
Boykin came to USF following a season as an assistant coach at Loyola University Chicago and two seasons at California State University, Northridge, where she also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator. At CSUN, she helped develop multiple All-Big West Conference honorees, including All-Conference and All-Freshman selections, while playing a central role in talent identification and roster construction. She began her collegiate coaching career at San Diego State University, serving as a graduate assistant from 2018 to 2020. In that role, she handled opponent practice coverage, academic coordination, alumni relations, and summer camps, gaining broad experience in program operations.
As a player, Boykin was one of the nation’s top high school recruits in 2011 and went on to appear in 113 games at Louisiana State University. Known for her resilience and leadership, she earned LSU’s Eye of the Tiger Award in 2014, recognizing perseverance and excellence. After graduating from LSU, she played professionally overseas in Greece and Turkey before transitioning into coaching. Boykin holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from LSU and a master’s degree in homeland security from San Diego State University, blending high-level basketball experience with strong academic credentials.
