Shawn Bryan
Assistant Coach
Shawn Bryan has been a member of the NJIT men’s swimming and diving coaching staff since the 2014–15 season, returning to his alma mater after a standout collegiate career with the Highlanders. In his role as an assistant coach, Bryan works primarily with the team’s sprinters, assisting in the development of training plans, practice structure, and performance strategies. Drawing directly from his experience as a Division I student-athlete, he emphasizes technical refinement, race preparation, and motivational training methods to support continued growth within the program.
Bryan competed for NJIT from 2010 to 2013 and served as team captain during his collegiate career. He was a key contributor to one of the most successful relay groups in program history, anchoring NJIT relay teams that broke all five school relay records during the 2012–13 season, including the 200 and 400 medley relays and the 200, 400, and 800 freestyle relays. Known for his sprinting ability, Bryan posted a 20.80 split in the 50 freestyle while anchoring the 200 freestyle relay. As a senior, he earned Metropolitan All-Conference and Metropolitan Honorable Mention honors and qualified for the ECAC Open Swimming Championships. Academically, Bryan graduated from NJIT’s Albert Dorman Honors College in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, he works full time at NJIT as the Acting Aquatics Director, further contributing to the university’s swimming and aquatic programming through leadership and facility oversight.
