Sarah Smevog joined the University of Oregon volleyball staff as an assistant coach in February 2025, reuniting with head coach Trent Kersten after working together at Loyola Marymount and during her playing career at San Jose State. At LMU, Smevog helped guide the program to significant success over two seasons, including a 45-12 overall record and a 29-5 mark in West Coast Conference play. In 2024, the Lions captured the WCC Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, highlighted by a win over Washington. During her tenure, she contributed to the development of multiple all-conference and academic honorees, as well as an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American.
Prior to her coaching career, Smevog was a standout libero at San Jose State, where she was a four-year starter and two-time All-Mountain West Conference selection. She finished her career with 1,734 digs, the second-highest total in program history, establishing herself as one of the program’s top defensive players. Known for her leadership and consistency on the court, she also excelled academically, earning recognition as an Arthur Ashe Scholar-Athlete and a three-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete. Smevog began her coaching career in 2023 at LMU, where she immediately made an impact, helping the team to a 20-6 record in her first season. Her experience as both a high-level player and emerging coach adds valuable insight and energy to Oregon’s staff.
