Sam Shweisky
Head Coach
Sam Shweisky has been the head coach of Princeton University men’s volleyball since 2009 and enters his 17th season at the helm following a highly successful 2025 campaign. During his tenure, Shweisky has guided the Tigers to sustained prominence within the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA), capturing EIVA regular-season and tournament championships while establishing Princeton as a consistent national contender. Under his leadership, the program achieved its highest national ranking in school history at No. 10 and recorded landmark victories, including Princeton’s first-ever win over UCLA and a historic upset of No. 2 Penn State in the 2022 EIVA Tournament. Shweisky has led the Tigers to multiple EIVA championship finals and NCAA Tournament appearances, earning EIVA Head Coach of the Year honors on several occasions.
Beyond team success, Shweisky has built a reputation for elite player development and program culture. He has coached numerous All-EIVA performers, All-Americans, and EIVA Players of the Year, while emphasizing character, accountability, and leadership as core pillars of the program. His teams have excelled statistically at the national level, including leading Division I in aces per set, and have produced players who have thrived both competitively and academically. Former players frequently cite his holistic approach, noting that on-court results are driven by preparation, integrity, and personal growth.
Shweisky’s influence extends well beyond Princeton. He has served in multiple coaching roles with USA Volleyball, including head coach and team leader for U.S. youth and junior national teams and assistant coach with the U.S. Men’s Senior National Team in international competition. A former collegiate player himself, Shweisky competed at Vassar College and internationally before transitioning into coaching. He holds a master’s degree in sports psychology and remains deeply involved in the national volleyball community, shaping the sport through both collegiate and international leadership.
