Sam Bean is an assistant coach for George Washington University softball in Washington, D.C., having joined the staff in late summer 2025. A native of Rockwall, Texas, she came to GW after a six-year collegiate playing career that included time at Maryland, Lamar, and UAB.
Bean finished her career with a graduate season at Maryland in 2025, serving as the Terrapins' starting catcher and posting a .271 batting average, .380 on-base percentage, and .511 slugging percentage. She earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition and was a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree that year. Although an injury kept her out for the 2024 season, she remained involved with the team in a coach-like capacity. At Lamar, Bean recorded 87 hits across two seasons, was named the program's newcomer of the year in 2022, and later earned Southland All-Academic First Team honors in 2023. She began her college career at UAB, where she was recognized multiple times for academic achievement by Conference USA.
