Ryan Wochomurka
Head Swimming and Diving Coach
Ryan Wochomurka, a former Auburn All-American and national champion, is entering his fifth season as head coach of the Auburn Swimming and Diving program. Since returning to his alma mater, he has led both the men’s and women’s teams back into national prominence. In 2024-25, Auburn swimmers earned 13 All-America honors, with the women recording 22 top-10 swims and dives in program history, including a school-record 1:34.89 in the 200 medley relay at the SEC Championships. On the men’s side, Danny Schmidt set a school record in the 200 butterfly (1:40.43), while Mason Mathias concluded his career as Auburn’s record holder in the 500 and 1000 freestyle events and was named SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Under Wochomurka’s leadership, Auburn has posted consecutive top finishes at the SEC and NCAA Championships, including a 12th-place NCAA finish for the men in 2023-24 and a return to the top 20 nationally for the women. Prior to Auburn, Wochomurka served six seasons as head coach at the University of Houston, where he led the women to five consecutive American Athletic Conference championships and earned AAC Women’s Coach of the Year honors each year from 2017–2021.
A 21-time All-American at Auburn (2002–05), Wochomurka was part of three NCAA championship teams and won NCAA titles in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 2003 FINA World Championships, earning a silver medal in the 4x100 free relay. He and his wife, Leigh, have two children, Hayes and Hallie.
