Ryan Walthall

Ryan “Walt” Walthall joins the Florida Gators for the 2025 volleyball season in his first year under head coach Ryan Theis. He comes most recently from Marquette University, where he served as an assistant coach for three seasons (2022-24), helping lead the Golden Eagles to two Big East Championships, three NCAA tournaments, and a regional semifinal appearance in 2024. Under his guidance, several players earned AVCA All-Region honors and academic distinctions. Earlier, Walthall was a longtime assistant at his alma mater, Penn State (men’s program), and also coached at UC Santa Barbara, Ohio University, and North Florida. He brings particular strength in defensive systems, serve-receive strategy, scouting, video analysis, and player development. As a player, he was a four-year letterwinner at Penn State and contributed on the court chiefly as a libero/digger, helping PSU to multiple national semifinal appearances.
