Ryan Theis
Head Coach
Ryan Theis (pronounced TICE) begins his first season as head coach of the Florida Gators volleyball program in fall 2025. He returns to Gainesville, where he was previously an assistant coach in 2006–07, and joins the Gators after 17 seasons as a head coach with a career winning percentage around .740. His most recent stint was 11 years at Marquette (2014-2024), where he posted a 258-87 record, led the program to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, including deep runs (regional semifinal appearances in 2018, 2022, 2024), and won three Big East regular-season championships.
Prior to Marquette, Theis was head coach at Ohio University (2008-2014), where he guided the Bobcats to four NCAA Tournament berths, multiple conference titles, and built a strong record in league play. Earlier, he was assistant coach at Florida (2006-07), during which the Gators went 59-6 overall, 38-2 in SEC play, won two conference titles, and advanced to the NCAA regional semifinals.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from UW-Milwaukee and a master’s in Athletic Administration / Sport Management from Eastern Illinois. Theis is married to Jenny Manz, herself a former Florida standout and SEC Player of the Year. They have three sons.
