Ryan Hawkins
Head Diving Coach
Ryan Hawkins is the head diving coach of the Virginia Tech swimming & diving program, having officially taken the role in late 2024 following his initial appointment to the staff in August 2023. Before becoming head diving coach, Hawkins served as a volunteer assistant and as part of the diving coaching staff, contributing to athlete development and the team’s competitive progress.
A graduate of Virginia Tech (class of 2015), Hawkins holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture with a minor in Industrial Design. As a diver, he earned multiple accolades: he was a four-time NCAA All-American, three-time NCAA Honorable Mention All-American, and a member of Team USA in 2012, 2015, and 2017. In 2015, he represented the United States in the Pan American Games. During his collegiate career, he also earned the VT Male Scholar Athlete of the Year honor in 2014. Before his current role, Hawkins coached across club and collegiate settings: he was a full-time diving coach for Carolina Diving Academy, coached at New River Dive Club, had prior stints with Virginia Tech in 2014–15, worked with the Fort Lauderdale Diving Team, and was a volunteer assistant at Davidson College. He also has served as the club director for New River Diving beginning January 2021.
