Rob Williams
Assistant Coach
Rob Williams enters his second season as an assistant coach with the UAB men’s basketball program in 2024-25 after being hired by head coach Andy Kennedy in May 2023. In his first season back in Birmingham, Williams helped guide the Blazers to an American Athletic Conference Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance. The 2024-25 campaign saw UAB post a 23-14 record, advance to the AAC Championship game for the fourth consecutive year, and reach the quarterfinals of the NIT. Williams has contributed to the development of standout performers, including Yaxel Lendeborg, who earned AAC Defensive Player of the Year honors and First Team All-Conference recognition.
Prior to returning to UAB, Williams spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Denver, where he helped the program achieve steady improvement, including matching its highest win total since 2016-17 and producing its highest scoring average in five seasons. Williams previously served five years on UAB’s staff in various roles, including Director of Player Relations. A former Blazer standout from 2009-14, Williams started 81 of 123 career games, ranks 10th in program history with 580 rebounds, and was part of the 2010-11 Conference USA regular season championship team that reached the NCAA Tournament. He holds degrees in communication studies and communication management from UAB.
