Rob Shutte
Head Coach
Rob Shutte is the distinguished head coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights men’s golf program, entering his 14th season leading the team in 2025–26. Since his appointment on February 14, 2012, Shutte has built a culture of competitive excellence and academic achievement, guiding Rutgers through three conference transitions and establishing the program as a respected contender in the Northeast Region and Big Ten Conference. His leadership has earned him recognition as Golfweek Division I Northeast Coach of the Year in both 2020 and 2023, and Rutgers has finished as the #1 ranked team in the Northeast in 2021, 2023, and 2024. Shutte has overseen 19 PING All-Region selections and was instrumental in developing the program’s first Big Ten Player of the Year, Christopher Gotterup, in 2020. Gotterup also became Rutgers’ first All-American since 2005 and helped return the team to NCAA postseason play for the first time in over 15 years.
Shutte’s influence extends beyond competitive performance into academic success and community engagement. Under his guidance, 16 student-athletes have earned Academic All-American honors, and 16 have been recognized as Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, reflecting his commitment to holistic development. He also helped create the Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program in 2013, a collegiate golf initiative honoring fallen or injured American service members. Before Rutgers, Shutte revitalized golf programs at Muhlenberg College (men’s) and Lehigh University (women’s). A proud Penn State alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Shutte has deep personal ties to Rutgers athletics—his father was a Scarlet Knights football and baseball letterwinner, and his mother was a student sportswriter at the university. He and his wife, Caitlin, reside in New Jersey with their three children, Charlie, Henry, and Claire.
