Rob Sheppard
Head Coach
Rob Sheppard was named the 17th head coach in Seton Hall University baseball history on June 30, 2004, continuing a storied family legacy within the program. The son of legendary coach Mike Sheppard, Sr., who won 998 games over 31 seasons, Sheppard previously served seven years as an assistant coach and two as associate head coach before taking the helm. Over more than two decades as head coach, he has compiled over 520 victories, ranking second all-time in program history behind his father. His tenure is among the longest in school history, and he has mentored six All-Americans, 71 All-BIG EAST selections, and 40 players who signed professional contracts with Major League Baseball organizations.
Under Sheppard’s leadership, Seton Hall has captured multiple BIG EAST Championships and made numerous NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2011 conference title and NCAA Regional run. His teams have consistently contended in the BIG EAST, highlighted by a stretch of 10 consecutive conference tournament appearances and a runner-up finish in 2018. The 2023 season marked a strong resurgence, with 31 wins, a return to the BIG EAST Tournament, and recognition as the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. A Seton Hall graduate and former Pirate middle infielder, Sheppard earned his bachelor’s degree from the Stillman School of Business in 1992 and later completed two master’s degrees at the university. He and his wife, Kelly, reside in New Jersey with their two sons.
