Robbie McClellan
Head Coach
Robbie McClellan will enter his eighth season as head coach of the NJIT baseball program in 2026, having led the Highlanders through a sustained period of competitive growth at the Division I level. Since taking over the program, McClellan has compiled 151 career victories and guided NJIT to five America East Tournament appearances, highlighted by the program’s NCAA Tournament berth in 2021. He was promoted to head coach following the 2019 season after serving as interim head coach in 2018, succeeding Brian Guiliana. McClellan originally joined the NJIT coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2011 and spent seven seasons in that role before assuming leadership of the program.
Under McClellan’s direction, NJIT has developed into a consistent postseason contender within the America East Conference, producing multiple all-conference selections, an America East Pitcher of the Year, and NCAA All-Region honorees. His teams reached the NCAA Fayetteville Regional in 2021 after a second-place conference finish and have maintained regular appearances in the league tournament. Prior to NJIT, McClellan transitioned into coaching after a professional playing career that included three seasons in the minor leagues following his selection in the 12th round of the 2003 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals. He also served as pitching coach at Chandler Gilbert Community College, where dozens of his pitchers advanced to Division I programs or professional baseball. A former collegiate pitcher at Seward County Community College and Arizona State University, McClellan was part of ASU’s 2003 NCAA Super Regional team and later coached in elite summer leagues such as the Cape Cod Baseball League and Texas Collegiate League. He is a 2011 graduate of Northern Arizona University.
