Ricky Johns is an assistant coach for the St. John's University men's basketball program in Queens, New York, a position he has held since April 2023. He arrived at St. John's after six seasons at Iona and has been part of a period in which the program reestablished itself in the BIG EAST and nationally.
In his first three seasons on the St. John's staff, the team went 81-25 and posted consecutive 30-win seasons entering 2026-27. After a 20-13 finish in his first year, St. John's followed with back-to-back seasons that produced both the outright BIG EAST regular-season championship and the BIG EAST Tournament title, an achievement the source notes no other program in league history has matched in consecutive years. The Red Storm also won an NCAA Tournament game in 2025 for the first time since 2000 and reached the Sweet 16 in 2026 for the first time since 1999. Players recognized during his time at St. John's included BIG EAST Players of the Year RJ Luis Jr. in 2025 and Zuby Ejiofor in 2026, with Ejiofor also earning Defensive Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.
