Rich Dorman serves as the pitching coach for Oregon State University’s baseball program, joining the staff in 2019 under head coach Mitch Canham. Since his arrival, Dorman has played a key role in maintaining Oregon State’s reputation as one of the nation’s premier pitching programs. Under his guidance, the Beavers’ pitching staffs have consistently ranked among the best in the Pac-12 and nationally in key categories such as earned run average and strikeouts. He has coached multiple All-Americans and helped develop standout arms, including National Pitcher of the Year Cooper Hjerpe in 2022. His staffs have set program records for strikeouts and demonstrated exceptional control, limiting walks and home runs while producing elite-level performance across multiple seasons.
Prior to Oregon State, Dorman spent three seasons as pitching coach at Grand Canyon University, where he improved the program’s performance and helped produce MLB Draft selections. He also brings extensive professional experience, having spent eight years in the Seattle Mariners organization as a pitching coach across multiple minor league levels. During that time, he mentored several future Major League pitchers, including Taijuan Walker, Pablo López, and Freddy Peralta. A former professional pitcher himself, Dorman was drafted out of Corban University and played nine seasons in affiliated baseball, reaching the Triple-A level. His combination of playing and coaching experience, along with a proven ability to develop pitchers, has made him a cornerstone of Oregon State’s continued success on the mound.
