Richard Ainscough has served as an assistant coach for George Washington University men's soccer in Washington, District of Columbia, since January 2026. He arrived at GW after three seasons at Regis University, where he was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Regis posted an unbeaten conference campaign and its best league finish in more than a decade in 2024, then followed with a 9-6-4 record and a conference semifinal appearance in 2025. The program also earned a national ranking for the first time in 10 years during his tenure.
Before Regis, Ainscough spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Eckerd College, his alma mater, where the team improved from 2-12-1 to a winning record and produced its best season in seven years. He previously worked for two seasons at Rollins College, overseeing recruiting for a program that reached the national top 25. As a player, he began his college career at the University of Buffalo, then transferred to Eckerd and recorded 30 points in 36 starts while serving twice as team captain and twice as team MVP. After college, he played professionally in five countries in Europe and later worked for a UK soccer consultancy, directing U.S. college placements for more than 200 athletes.
