Before arriving at Louisville, Vail spent three seasons from 2018 to 2021 as the head strength and conditioning coach for the University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team. He previously worked at Kent State from 2011 to 2018, beginning as a graduate assistant with football, women's soccer, and track and field before moving into an assistant strength and conditioning coach role that also included baseball. In his final two seasons there, he served as head basketball sports performance coach for the men's and women's basketball teams.
