Rashinda Reed
Head Coach
Rashinda Reed was named head coach of the University of Alabama volleyball program on December 20, 2021, becoming the first Black female head coach in program history. Since taking over in 2022, Reed has emphasized building a culture rooted in excellence, resilience, and competitive growth within the Southeastern Conference. In her first season, Alabama ranked among the top three teams in the SEC in both aces and digs, while producing multiple academic honorees, including a program-record four CSC Academic All-District selections. Reed has prioritized player development and academic success, continuing to elevate the Crimson Tide’s competitiveness in one of the nation’s strongest volleyball conferences.
Before arriving in Tuscaloosa, Reed spent five seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Illinois, contributing to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including two Sweet 16 runs and a 2018 national semifinal appearance as the No. 3 overall seed. She previously held assistant coaching positions at UAB, Northeastern, Binghamton, and the University of Southern Indiana, helping guide Binghamton to an America East Conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth. A former collegiate player at the University of Georgia, Reed also competed professionally in Europe following graduation. A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, she holds a degree in psychology from Georgia and has been active in national coaching organizations. Reed is married to David Halligan, and the couple has a son, Lucas.
