Phil Forte is an assistant coach for the West Virginia University men's basketball program in Morgantown, West Virginia, joining Ross Hodge's first WVU staff in April 2025. A native of Flower Mound, Texas, Forte arrived in Morgantown with nine seasons of Division I coaching experience.
In his first season at West Virginia in 2025-26, the Mountaineers won 21 games and captured the 2026 College Basketball Crown in Las Vegas with victories over Stanford, Creighton and Oklahoma. WVU finished seventh in the Big 12 after being picked 11th in the preseason poll despite returning no scoring from the previous season. The team also posted notable results that year, including ranked wins over BYU and Kansas, a 22-point victory over Pitt that marked the largest margin against the Panthers in the history of Hope Coliseum, and a 13-0 start at home that was the program's best since 1981-82. West Virginia also recorded two of the three largest road comebacks in school Big 12 history with 14-point second-half rallies at UCF and Cincinnati.
