Paul Honsinger
Head Women's Basketball Coach
Paul Honsinger is the head coach of the Eckerd College women’s basketball program and enters his 20th season at the helm in 2025–26. During his tenure, he has transformed the Tritons into one of the most consistently competitive programs in the Sunshine State Conference and the NCAA Division II South Region. Under his leadership, Eckerd has captured four SSC championships, earned eight NCAA Tournament appearances, and produced seven consecutive postseason berths. Program milestones during his tenure include the first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014–15, the first SSC regular-season title in 2016–17, and the program’s first Sweet 16 appearance in 2022–23. His teams have also advanced to the NCAA South Regional second round in three consecutive seasons from 2022 through 2024.
Honsinger is a two-time Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year and a three-time NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year finalist. Over the past seven seasons alone, his teams have compiled a 181–60 record, including seven straight 20-win seasons and a dominant home record. His squads have regularly appeared in the WBCA Top 25, reaching a program-best No. 5 national ranking during the 2022–23 season. Known for efficiency and balance, Honsinger’s teams consistently rank among the national leaders in defensive field goal percentage while also excelling academically, highlighted by a top-three national WBCA Academic Honor Roll finish.
A native of Troy, New York, Honsinger is an Eckerd College alumnus who graduated in 1998 with a degree in psychology and later earned a master’s degree in educational administration from The College of Saint Rose. Prior to becoming head coach, he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Saint Rose. He resides in St. Petersburg with his three children, Reese, Anna, and Myles, and remains a central figure in the sustained success and national recognition of Eckerd women’s basketball.
