Pat Malone
Assistant Swim Coach/Recruiting Coordinaor
Pat Malone is an assistant swim coach and recruiting coordinator for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights swimming and diving program, having joined the staff in July 2024. A New Jersey native, Malone brings a well-rounded background that blends competitive success, program leadership, and a strong commitment to academic excellence. At Rutgers, he supports the continued rise of the Scarlet Knights in the Big Ten while contributing to athlete development, recruiting strategy, and day-to-day coaching operations within a nationally competitive program.
Before arriving in Piscataway, Malone spent three seasons as an assistant coach at UMBC, where he played a key role in a period of sustained conference success. During his tenure, the Retrievers’ men’s program captured back-to-back America East Championships in 2022 and 2023, and the combined men’s and women’s teams produced 36 America East champions. UMBC athletes also earned major conference honors, including America East Rookie of the Year and Swimmer of the Meet recognition. Prior to UMBC, Malone served three seasons as head coach at Manhattan College, guiding the Jaspers to multiple top-16 finishes at the MAAC Championships while consistently earning CSCAA Scholar All-America Team recognition. He also spent three seasons at Long Island University, including time as interim head coach, overseeing numerous top-eight conference performances and helping the program rank among the department’s top teams academically. A former standout swimmer at Rowan University, Malone earned Division III Honorable Mention All-America honors and multiple academic distinctions. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Rowan and a master’s degree from LIU.
