Nick Mata is the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for George Mason women's volleyball in Fairfax, Virginia. He joined the Patriots as an assistant coach in 2021 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2024. During his time on staff, George Mason has improved its record each season, and the program has produced one All-Conference selection and three All-Rookie Team honorees.
In 2023, Mata was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 honoree, a national recognition for emerging coaches in the sport. Before arriving at George Mason, he spent four years at the University of Arizona as director of operations for the women's indoor and beach volleyball programs. He also served as a volunteer assistant coach there in 2018 and coached Arizona's women's club team to a fifth-place finish at the 2016 NCVF Nationals.
