Nathan Matthews
Assistant Coach
Nathan Matthews joined the University of Alabama volleyball program as an assistant coach in the spring of 2025, bringing head coaching and championship experience to Tuscaloosa. Working under head coach Rashinda Reed, Matthews contributes to player development, match preparation, and program strategy as Alabama continues building toward sustained success in the Southeastern Conference. His addition reflects the program’s commitment to competitive growth, analytics-driven preparation, and cultivating a high-performance culture for student-athletes.
Prior to Alabama, Matthews served as head coach at Wittenberg University from 2022 to 2024, where he led the Tigers to back-to-back 15-win seasons—the program’s first such streak since 2016. He earned consecutive Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Coach of the Year honors in 2023 and 2024 and guided Wittenberg to back-to-back regular season conference championships, including an undefeated league campaign in 2024. Earlier, Matthews worked as technical coordinator at the University of Kentucky from 2020 to 2021, overseeing video breakdown and analytics while contributing to the Wildcats’ 2020 NCAA National Championship run. His background in data analysis, scouting, and program leadership adds valuable depth to Alabama’s coaching staff.
